Trucks
Toyota Tacoma
Good for: Trailheads, hunting trips, and light towing.
Toyota’s midsize truck, redesigned for 2024 with a turbo four-cylinder and an available hybrid. Earlier generations used four-cylinder and V6 engines, and TRD Off-Road versions are popular for backroads.
Toyota Tundra
Good for: Towing campers, boats, and trailers.
The 2022 redesign moved from V8 power to a twin-turbo V6, with a hybrid version. Earlier Tundras used V8 engines. CrewMax models have the larger cab.
SUVs
Toyota 4Runner
Good for: Off-road trips and snowy mountain roads.
A truck-based SUV with a long off-road reputation, redesigned for 2025 with a turbo four-cylinder and an available hybrid.
Toyota Sequoia

Built on the Tundra’s platform. The 2023 redesign made it hybrid-only. Earlier Sequoias used V8 engines.

Good for: Commuters who can charge at home.
Renamed from bZ4X for 2026, with up to 314 miles of manufacturer-estimated range on the XLE FWD Plus (74.7-kWh battery) and a NACS charging port. Used 2023–2025 models carry the bZ4X name.
Toyota Sienna
Good for: Families who want sliding doors and AWD.
The 2021 redesign made it hybrid-only with AWD available. Earlier Siennas are gas-powered, and some offered AWD.

Toyota’s original hybrid. AWD-e versions have been offered in recent years, and the Prius Prime adds plug-in electric range.
Cars
Toyota Camry
Good for: Comfortable daily driving.

What to check on a used Toyota
Remaining factory warranty
Toyota’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic and 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain coverage transfer to later owners. Count from the original in-service date, not from your purchase.
Hybrid battery coverage
For 2020 and newer hybrids, the hybrid battery is covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles. Earlier hybrids carry 8-year/100,000-mile hybrid component coverage.
Open recalls
Run the VIN through NHTSA’s recall lookup. On 2022–2024 Tundras, confirm the status of Toyota’s engine recalls.
Frames on older trucks
Look closely at the frames of 2005–2010 Tacoma, 2007–2008 Tundra, and 2005–2008 Sequoia models, which were covered by Toyota’s frame corrosion settlement.
4x4 and AWD operation
On the test drive, engage four-wheel drive and listen for clunks or grinding. Our test-drive checklist covers the rest.
History and a second opinion
Review the free CARFAX report for title, accident, and service history, and take the vehicle to an independent mechanic if you like.
Warranty terms are from Toyota’s warranty page and apply within the original time and mileage limits.
Why Toyotas fit Idaho driving
4x4 for the backcountry
Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner, and Sequoia offer four-wheel drive for snow, forest roads, and hunting trips.
Hybrid AWD for commuters
RAV4 Hybrid, Highlander Hybrid, and newer Sienna models pair hybrid efficiency with available AWD for winter commutes.
Built to last
Toyotas are widely known for reliability and strong resale value, so check maintenance records and expect used prices to reflect that.
EVs for the cold
The 2026 bZ adds battery preconditioning for faster cold-weather DC charging and a heat pump. Range still drops in winter, so read our Used EV Buying Checklist.

Used Toyota FAQ
Are Driven’s used Toyotas Toyota Certified?
No. Driven is an independent dealership, not a Toyota franchise, and Toyota Certified Used Vehicles are sold through Toyota dealers. Every vehicle we sell comes with a free CARFAX report, each retail vehicle is professionally inspected and reconditioned, and you’re welcome to take any vehicle to an independent mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection.
Does Toyota’s factory warranty transfer to a used Toyota?
Yes. Toyota’s new-vehicle warranty transfers to later owners at no cost, but the clock starts when the vehicle was first put into service. Basic coverage runs 3 years or 36,000 miles, powertrain 5 years or 60,000 miles, and rust-through 5 years with unlimited miles, whichever comes first.
How long is the hybrid battery warranty on a used Toyota hybrid?
For 2020 and newer Toyota hybrids, the hybrid battery is covered for 10 years from first use or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Hybrid-related components are covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles, and some states’ emissions coverage can extend battery coverage.
Does ToyotaCare transfer when you buy a used Toyota?
It can. Toyota says ToyotaCare transfers to later owners of eligible models while the vehicle is still within its eligibility period. For 2026 and earlier models, that’s 2 years or 25,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, plus 24/7 roadside assistance for 2 years with unlimited miles.
What should I check on an older Tacoma, Tundra, or Sequoia frame?
Look underneath. Toyota’s frame corrosion settlement covered 2005–2010 Tacoma, 2007–2008 Tundra, and 2005–2008 Sequoia vehicles, and some had frames replaced. Ask about the frame history, check the CARFAX, and have a mechanic inspect the frame.
Are there recalls to know about on newer Tundras?
Yes. Toyota has issued engine recalls on certain 2022–2024 Tundras with the 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6. Run the VIN through NHTSA’s recall lookup and ask whether the remedy has been completed. Recall repairs are free at Toyota dealers.
What’s the difference between the Toyota bZ and the bZ4X?
They’re the same electric SUV. Toyota renamed the bZ4X as the bZ for 2026 and added a larger available battery with up to 314 miles of manufacturer-estimated range and a NACS charging port. Used 2023–2025 models wear the bZ4X name.
