Who sells used Jeeps in Boise?
Driven, on W Fairview Ave, is an independent used car dealership, not a Jeep or Stellantis franchise. That means you can drive a used Jeep back to back with SUVs and trucks from other brands before you choose.
- $0 dealer fees, whether you buy from our retail lot or the Monkey Lot.
- Free CARFAX report with every vehicle, Monkey Lot vehicles too.
- Outside inspections welcome. Bring any Jeep to your own mechanic or 4x4 shop before you buy.

Idaho trails
Trail Rated Jeeps and Idaho backcountry
Jeep’s Trail Rated badge goes on models that pass Jeep’s tests in five categories:
- Traction
- Water fording
- Maneuverability
- Articulation
- Ground clearance
- Where to look for it. Wrangler, Gladiator, and the Trailhawk versions of Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, Compass, and Renegade, plus the new electric Recon.
- Low range matters on steep two-tracks. Systems with a low range give slow, controlled crawling on rocky climbs and descents.
- Stay on open routes. Check the Forest Service or BLM travel maps for the area before you head out, and know your water fording limit from the owner’s manual.
- Winter tires still count. 4x4 helps you get moving on snow, but tires do the stopping and steering.
4x4 systems
Jeep 4x4 systems, explained
Jeep names its 4x4 systems, and the window sticker or owner’s manual tells you which one a used Jeep has. The big difference is part-time versus full-time.
| System | Type | Low range | When to use 4WD | Typically found on |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Command-Trac | Part-time | Yes, 2.72:1 | 2WD on dry pavement; 4WD for snow, mud, gravel, and trails | Wrangler and Gladiator (non-Rubicon trims) |
| Rock-Trac | Part-time or full-time, by model | Yes, 4:1 | Full-time version adds 4H AUTO for any surface; part-time version follows the Command-Trac rules | Wrangler and Gladiator Rubicon |
| Selec-Trac | Full-time | Yes, 2.72:1 | Any surface; switches between 2WD and 4WD automatically | Available on Wrangler |
| Quadra-Trac I | Full-time | No | Any surface; always engaged | Grand Cherokee |
| Quadra-Trac II | Full-time | Yes | Any surface, plus low range for steep or technical terrain | Grand Cherokee |

Open-air 4x4 SUV
Jeep Wrangler
Good fit: Trail days, river trips, and summer drives with the top off.
Two-door and four-door Unlimited versions, with a solid front axle, removable doors, and a removable top. The JK generation ran from 2007 to 2018 and the JL arrived for 2018. Rubicon trims add Rock-Trac and locking differentials.
Plug-in hybrid 4x4
Jeep Wrangler 4xe
Good fit: Short electric commutes with trail capability on weekends.
A plug-in hybrid Wrangler. Jeep has ended 4xe production, so used is now the main way to get one. Confirm the battery recall work before you buy.
Midsize pickup
Jeep Gladiator
Good fit: Drivers who want a Wrangler with a truck bed.
Built on the Wrangler since the 2020 model year, with the same removable top and doors. Check the towing and payload ratings on the specific truck before you hitch up.
Midsize SUV
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Good fit: Daily driving with real 4x4 hardware underneath.
A comfortable, road-focused Jeep with Quadra-Trac 4x4 systems. The current generation arrived for 2022. Trailhawk versions are Trail Rated.
Three-row SUV
Jeep Grand Cherokee L
Good fit: Families who need a third row.
A longer, three-row Grand Cherokee introduced for the 2021 model year.
Plug-in hybrid SUV
Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe
Good fit: Grand Cherokee shoppers who want electric miles around town.
The plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee. Like the Wrangler 4xe, it’s no longer in production, and its battery recall status should be checked by VIN.
Compact SUV
Jeep Cherokee
Good fit: Commuters who want an affordable Jeep with 4x4 available.
The earlier generation was sold through the 2023 model year, with Trail Rated Trailhawk trims. Jeep brought the name back for 2026 as a hybrid with standard AWD.
Compact SUV
Jeep Compass
Good fit: City driving with room for gear and 4x4 for snowy mornings.
A smaller, efficient Jeep with 4x4 widely available. Trailhawk versions are Trail Rated.
Subcompact SUV
Jeep Renegade
Good fit: Tight parking and tight budgets.
The smallest Jeep, sold in the U.S. through the 2023 model year. Trailhawk trims are Trail Rated.
Compact SUV
Jeep Patriot
Good fit: A low-cost first Jeep.
An older compact Jeep built through 2017, in front-drive and 4x4 versions. Expect most to be higher-mileage, budget-priced vehicles.
Full-size SUV
Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer
Good fit: Big families who tow boats or campers.
Three-row, full-size SUVs built since the 2022 model year, larger and more upscale than the Grand Cherokee. Used examples are less common in Boise than smaller Jeeps.
Electric SUV
Jeep Wagoneer S
Good fit: EV shoppers who want a fast, upscale Jeep.
Jeep’s first all-electric SUV in North America. Jeep skipped the 2026 model year and says the 2027 model adds a NACS charging port, so check which port and adapters a used one has.
Electric 4x4 SUV
Jeep Recon
Good fit: Wrangler fans ready to go electric.
Jeep calls it the only fully electric Trail Rated SUV. It has removable doors and began reaching dealers in fall 2026 in Moab trim, so used Recons will be rare for a while.
Before you buy
What to check on a used Jeep
Lift kits and modifications
Ask what’s been changed and who did the work. With a lift kit or bigger tires, look at driveshaft angles, brake lines, steering parts, and whether the speedometer was recalibrated. Keep receipts with the vehicle.
Front-end shake on solid-axle Jeeps
Wranglers and Gladiators use a solid front axle, and some develop a hard front-end shake after a bump at speed, often called “death wobble.” It’s usually traced to worn or loose steering and suspension parts, and Jeep released an upgraded steering damper for some JL Wranglers. Have a mechanic check the track bar, tie rods, ball joints, and damper.
Trail wear underneath
Look for dented skid plates, scraped rocker panels, and bent tie rods. Mud packed in the frame or water lines inside can point to deep water crossings.
4x4 engagement
On the test drive, shift into 4H and 4L (if equipped) on a loose surface and listen for grinding or clunks. Check the transfer case and axles for leaks.
Tops, doors, and seals
Removable tops and doors are part of the fun. Check for water stains, worn seals, and every part of the top and its hardware.
4xe battery recall
Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe models are covered by a high-voltage battery fire-risk recall (NHTSA 25V-741). Confirm the remedy was completed before you buy.
Open recalls on any Jeep
Run the VIN through NHTSA’s recall lookup and ask for proof of completed recall work.
History and an outside inspection
Read the free CARFAX report, then take the Jeep to the independent mechanic of your choice. A 4x4 shop is a good pick for a modified Jeep.
Jeep factory coverage on recent models: 3 years/36,000 miles basic and 5 years/60,000 miles powertrain, and Jeep says the new vehicle limited warranty transfers to the next owner (Jeep warranty, 2025 Jeep warranty booklet).

Used Jeep FAQ
What does Trail Rated mean on a used Jeep?
Trail Rated is Jeep’s badge for models that passed its tests in five categories: traction, water fording, maneuverability, articulation, and ground clearance. On a used Jeep, it tells you how the model was built, not how it’s been treated, so an inspection still matters.
Can I drive a Jeep in 4WD on dry pavement?
It depends on the 4x4 system. Jeep says part-time systems like Command-Trac belong in 2WD on dry pavement, because 4WD there can cause binding and driveline wear. Full-time systems such as Selec-Trac, Quadra-Trac, and full-time Rock-Trac in 4H AUTO are designed for all surfaces.
What is death wobble on a Jeep Wrangler?
It’s the nickname for a violent shake in the front end that some solid-axle Jeeps develop after hitting a bump at speed. It’s commonly traced to worn or loose steering and suspension parts, and lift kits or larger tires can make it more likely. Have a mechanic check the front end on any used Wrangler or Gladiator.
Should I buy a used Jeep with a lift kit?
A well-done lift kit can be fine, but ask for receipts and who installed it. Bigger tires and raised suspension change steering, braking, and fuel economy, so get an independent inspection from a mechanic who knows modified 4x4s.
Does the 4xe battery warranty transfer to a used Jeep?
Yes. Jeep says its new vehicle limited warranty stays with the vehicle for the next owner. For a 4xe registered in Idaho, the high-voltage battery coverage runs 8 years or 100,000 miles, counted from the original warranty start date. Gradual capacity loss isn’t covered.
Is the Wrangler 4xe discontinued?
Yes. Jeep says the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe are no longer in production, and it still supports 4xe owners. Before buying one used, confirm the battery recall remedy has been completed.
Should I get a used Wrangler or a Gladiator?
Both share removable tops and doors and solid axles. The Wrangler is shorter and easier to park on tight trails, while the Gladiator adds a pickup bed for bikes, camping gear, or firewood. Pick based on what you haul.
Does Jeep make an electric SUV?
Yes. Jeep currently lists two: the Wagoneer S, an upscale electric SUV, and the Recon, which Jeep says is the only fully electric Trail Rated SUV. The Recon began reaching dealers in fall 2026, so the Wagoneer S is the Jeep EV you’re more likely to find used.
